I spent a good two hours at Nintendo's booth today, and I could have easily spent the entire day if time allowed. The big N stole the show this year if you ask me.
I used to be a huge Nintendo fanboy (three years clean), but after checking out their booth I felt the old urge to flame other companies rising once again. Everything they showed was sick: revivals of old-school franchises like Donkey Kong Country, Kid Icarus, Kirby, and Golden Sun,slick WiiMotion-Plus accurate swordplay in Zelda: Skyward Sword, dynamic and exhilarating gameplay from a near-complete Metroid: Other M...oh, and a wee little bit of hardware called the 3DS.

Like Duke, I was a bit skeptical of the 3DS despite my history of rabid fanboyism. I expected it to feel somewhat gimmicky and cheap, and I was dead wrong. I'll let the other guys play it cool as they are wont to do, but I was fucking floored. It has amazingly immersive 3D effects without any glasses whatsoever, lets you toggle the 3D on and off with a slider on the fly, all while delivering slightly-better-than-PS2 graphics. Not to mention twin cameras that let you take 3D pictures which you can then implement right into your 3D games. I dunno how they got it to work so well, but it fucking works. My only minor misgiving is that some extreme close-up images are a little disorienting, but you get used to it really quickly.
I haven't been this excited about a new piece of hardware in 15 years. Now please excuse me while I go change my pants.
